Bells, Whistles, and Explosive Particle Effects

Another video for you today, showing off a newly-skinned model (she's much smoother here than in the last video), better-alligned animations, and most noticibly some flashy particle effects.

Why particle effects rock my world:
  • Exciting eye candy - a visual delight.
  • Increase player immersion.
  • Reward/satisfaction for growing more powerful and finding new loot.
  • Visual cues (such as leveling up, or knowing what objects can be interacted with, etc).

Thoughts? You like?

  1. Particle effects look great, Small Caves. My first thought was is this an arcade game? I haven't played an abundance of Indie games but from what I have your graphics are more colorful and crisp than I'm used to.

  2. It's currently targeted as an XBLIG, Kupo. I'm sure Carl wouldn't shy away from an Arcade opportunity if it presented itself though. Thanks for the compliments though, one of the main goals is to raise the bar for XBLIG graphics quality.

  3. It kind of reminds me of chapter 1 in Diablo II, as well as gauntlet legends on the Nintendo 64. Sounds like a winning combination to me. Either way, I love the shadows and particle system.
